Solutes and Solvents

A solute is a substance that can be dissolved in a solvent; for example salt is a solute that can be dissolved in water.

A solvent is a substance into which a solute maybe dissolved; for example, water is a solvent that can dissolve sugar.

A solution is a homogeneous mixture of two or more substances. A solution is made up of solutes and solvents for example:

Kool Aid Powder + Water = Kool Aid

The kool aid powder is the solute, water is the solvent, and Kool Aid is the solution
